This category contains various types of flowers which are notable in terms of their shape and the period from which they date. We also find arborescent motifs of Indian origin, as well as natural botanic images, romantic patterns with bows and ribbons, buds and gems, flowers enclosed in the oval-shape of a cameo (a small piece of hard stone carved in relief), damask flowers, wreaths and motifs recalling Provençal legends. Nor should we forget patterns which show a marked debt to William Morris and the designs and patterns available up to the time of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements. |
